Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has announced the Port Waikato by-election will be held on the earliest possible date, Saturday 25 November.
The by-election was forced by the death of ACT candidate Neil Christensen earlier this week.
It means only party votes will be counted in this Saturday’s poll.
Incumbent Andrew Bayley is certain to be reelected, at which point he takes up the seat and National brings in someone from its list, so the next parliament will have 121 members.
The deadline for nominations will be noon on the Friday after the election, and the last day for the return of the Writ will be Friday December 15.
