Māori Women’s Welfare League, president Hope Tupara says the league’s annual conference in Rotorua last week was a chance for members to reconnect after years of Covid-forced separation.
She says the 72-year old roopu has not been able to hold a full conference since 2019.
“So, we had 500 members come this year – 200 of them were delegates and the rest were observers, so it was really good to see everyone and to have our rohe in one space,” Dr Tupara says.
Dr Tupara says delegates discussed climate change and ways to improve whanau support.
