Labour’s Ikaroa-Rāwhiti candidate says policies which are making life a little easier for constituents will be gone if Labour isn’t re-elected.
Cushla Tangaere-Manuel has been clocking up the miles from the East Cape to Wellington’s Hutt Valley as she tries to reach voters.
She says the number one issue for many is the cost of living, closely followed by housing availability and affordability in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle.
She tells voters that millions of dollars in targeted Māori funding – especially for housing – will be lost if a Labour is not re-elected.
“Targeted funding for Māori is at risk. Direct relationships where iwi, hapū and wāanau have mana motuhake over their decision-making – with that targeted funding – is at risk. So you need to get out there whānau,” Ms Tangaere-Manuel says.
