Marae gives window into voter concerns
Te Pāti Māori’s Tāmaki Makaurau candidate says running an urban marae gives her daily confirmation of what matters to voters.
Natasha Kemp says voters have identified the cost of living, housing and health as the key issues they want resolved.
Manurewa Marae with its food bank and health centre has become a critical community resource.
“You’ve got whānau turning up in cars, no car seats. You see it all just by getting a glimpse of who turns up to the marae. Our whanau are in need, our whānau are in crisis and we need a change and our people are actually asking for change,” she says.
Ms Kemp says incumbent MP Peeni Henare has worked hard for Tāmaki Makaurau, but the time for change is now.
