Former Ngāti Kahungunu chair Ngahiwi Tomoana has been appointed to the panel reviewing the Hawke’s Bay civil defence and emergency management response to Cyclone Gabrielle.
The review is led by former Police Commissioner Mike Bush, who conducted a similar review of Auckland Council’s response to the January floods.
Other panel members are Debbie Francis, Gary Knowles and Paul Vlaanderen.
The panel will hold kānohi ki te kānohi kōrero with first responders, key stakeholders, including iwi, hapū and mārae.
The wider hāpori and whānau directly impacted will also have an opportunity to contribute.
The review is separate to the national review of the response to this year’s severe weather events, which is being led by former governor general Sir Jerry Mataparae.
