School lunch better than limp salad
A public health expert says Labour should look at tighter targeting rather than its cost of living election policy.
The 10-point plan includes no GST on fresh kai and an increase in the Working for Families in work tax credit.
Health Coalition Aotearoa co-chair say Lisa Te Morenga says the well-off will save money at the supermarket check out, but there are low income groups who will get little or nothing.
“We have beneficiary families or people on low incomes who don’t have children under 18 anymore who still need support. So definitely bolstering those incomes I think would be a much more targeted approach,” she says.
Dr Te Morenga says the money would be better spent expanding the Ka Ora Ka Ako healthy school lunches programme.
