She says the Puhinui Stream and Hill Park near the Auckland Botanic Gardens are becoming areas of serious concern for the community as a series of extreme weather events exposes their vulnerability to flooding.
She wants action from both central and local government.
“Maori, people from low economic households, people in the regions, anyone who hasn’t been served by government in the past very well is going to bear the brunt of climate change if we don’t put in solutions which fix things now and then we can move people and assets out of harm’s way if we need to,” Ms Williams says.
