Waipareira gives community free Matariki concert
Te Whānau o Waipareira will shut down part of central Henderson this evening for a Matariki celebration.
Chair Ray Hall says the concert features Katchafire, Tiki Taane and House of Shem as well as cultural performances from Rutherford College Kotuku, Tatau Mānaia and Te Riri o Te Cook Island.
He says they’re going all out for the whanau of west Auckland.
“It gives our community a bit of respite. The west has been hit hard with some of these extreme weather conditions so it gives them the opportunity to come down and celebrate the Maori new year. We’ve brought in some outstanding artists just to pay back our community and say ‘Waipareira’s here, come down and have a good time,” Mr Hall says.
The concert outside the Waipareira building on Catherine St behind WestCity Waitakere starts at 4pm.
