Pā brings past and future together for Waikato Uni

Waikato University has a new front door.
The Pā opened this morning as a student hub and ceremonial space.
It brings together four key projects under one roof structure; a wharenui to the east, a wing for the university executive leadership team, a central student hub, and the refurbished Building A housing the Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Sarah-Jane Tiakiwai says it celebrates relationships with mana whenua, the Kiingitanga and the wider motu, and includes specially commissioned artworks.
“The traditional sitting alongside the contemporary, both the past and the present with a nod to the future, is I think the most exciting for us,” she says.
Special guests at today’s opening included Kīngi Tūheitia Potatau Te Wherowhero VII and former university chancellor and prime minister Jim Bolger
