Māori tourism ready for rebound

New Zealand Māori Tourism chair Dale Stephens says Māori tourism is looking positive for a strong recovery later in the year.
He says the overall sector earned $3.8 billion in the past year, which will help the country offset its trade deficit.
It’s still not at pre-Covid levels, but signs are good.
“We’re seeing Maori tourism operators coming back to the sector and new operators are now setting up at a rate pretty close to what it was pre-Covid so we are seeing our Maori operators taking the plunge, getting set up, and now of course as we move into the shoulder in the winter season, I think the Maori sector will take off a lot more as we head into the summer with a whole lot of new opportunities coming through,” Mr Stephens says.
