Judges short chance Māori UFC star

A split decision that could put Māori flyweight Kai Kara-France out of UFC title contention has shocked the fighting world and had the fighter calling foul.
At the headline event at UFC 74 in Las Vegas at the weekend, Kara-France, who was ranked at number 3 going into the fight, landed 133 of 323 strikes, while his Iraqi opponent Amir Albazi connected with just 64 of 173.
Waatea sports commentator Taylah Johnson says he was robbed.
“I need to declare my bias – I went to school with Kai Kara-France. But in saying that, you’ve just gotta look on twitter, online, not even just Kiwis – but I definitely think he was robbed. Even his opponent kind of looked shocked that he had won,” she says.
Taylah Johnson says it’s time for judges to justify their decisions publicly – immediately following bouts.
