Bilingual sign designs released
Waka Kōtahi and Te Mātāwai have released 94 bilingual traffic signs for public consultation.
The initiative is aimed at making te reo Māori is visible at a community level.
Te Mātāwai board member Mātai Smith says there is a surge of people wanting to learn and embrace te reo Māori.
“This is a huge kaupapa for Te Mātāwai and we really want to acknowledge our association, our mahi tahi with he waka Kotahi because as the name suggests we had to get on the same waka. I really do admire the leadership Waka Kotahi took in terms of they nga ratou matou e tono,” he says. (CHECK TRANSCRIPT)
Waka Kotahi aims to have the signs available for use from 2024.
