Te Matatini making regional investment
The chief executive of Te Matatini says it’s going to be up to regions how they spend their Budget windfall.
The Government is putting $17 million a year over the next two years into the national kapa haka competition.
That’s nearly six times the previous funding level, and Carl Ross, says 70 percent of it will be shared among the 12 rohe.
He says it will allow them to tick off some of the objectives in Te Matatini’s 10-year plan, Te Pītau Whakarei
“Our executives will have a look and say well, you might want to fund our mana kuratahi, put a couple of hundred thousand into looking after our mana kuratahi and our kapahaka tuarua. We might want to put programmes into our kaumatua and kuia, in the revitalisation of moteatea,” Mr Ross says.
One of Te Matatini’s national priorities is to slash red tape and fast-track the set-up of 12 new regional offices to support kapahaka communities.
