Reti ready for contest of ideas

National’s most senior Māori MP says ruling out the Māori Party as a coalition partner opens the way for a contest of ideas.
Shane Reti says he supported the decision by leader Christopher Luxon, because the gap between the parties in their current state is too wide to allow for collaboration.
“Their views of ghost houses, their views on wealth tax, their views of Five Eyes were just getting further and further away, we’d already said it was unlikely and they had struck us out. When we put all those together it was very clear it was very unlikely if not impossible to be a partnership. Let’s just call it what it is, it’s not going to happen. Let’s critique each other’s policies, have that contest of ideas and take that through to voters,” he says.
