Ngā Tini Whetū pilot proves worth
Evaluation of a pilot programme aimed at supporting families and improving the safety and wellbeing of tamariki has found whānau have exceeded their own expectations and are creating intergenerational change.
Ngā Tini Whetū is a collaboration between the North Island Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency, Te Puni Kokiri and the Accident Compensation Corporation.
Starting in 2020, it has been delivered to 800 whanau by 58 Whānau Ora partners.
Releasing two reports on the pilot at Ruapōtaka Marae in Glen Innes yesterday, agency chief operating officer Awerangi Tamihere says it was whanau ora in action.
She says the fact it was able to continue through the pandemic shows its value.
“I you’re going to have enduring outcomes for our people we don’t stop when there’s a (pandemic). It is about our whanau and Ngā Tini Whetū is embedded in whatever we do with whanau,” Ms Tamihere says.
She says the Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency is now working on implementing the lessons learnt of Nga Tini Whetu throughout its network.
