Wairoa post-settlement governance entity Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa has started harvesting the first apple crop for its joint venture orchard – and it’s giving away the first fruits.
They’re going to the Pataka community hub set up to support whānau after Cyclone Gabrielle.
Chair Leon Symes says the horticulture joint venture with Ohuia Māori Incorporation is an important part of the long term regeneration of Te Wairoa.
He says there is huge potential for horticulture in the rohe, and the venture is also providing jobs and horticulture training for rangatahi.
