Polls missing election issues

Senior New Zealand First politician Shane Jones is picking his party’s support to rise once the election campaign starts in earnest.
This week’s One News-Kantar poll put the party at 3 percent, with leader Winston Peters also up one to 3 percent in the preferred prime minister stakes.
Mr Jones says people want things to change, but they’re not ready to tell the pollsters what they really think on issues like law and order and the state of the country’s infrastructure.
“Up here in the north everyone knows, it’s on their mind, but people have become cynical. They know that if they misspeak on such matters it can easily turn into an allegation of racism. Those types of issues I don’t feel are being adequately picked up in the polls but boy there is an appetite for these ongoing awkward but fiery issues to be dealt with in the upcoming election,” he says.
