Campbell calls out retreat from co-governance

Former Te Whatu Ora chair Rob Campbell says the battle over Three Waters is just the prelude to a full-on attack on the health reforms.
Mr Campbell was sacked from the national health authority by Health Minister Ayesha Verrall for a LinkedIn post which described National’s replacement plan for Three Waters as “thin disguise for the dog whistle on co-governance”.
He has first hand experience of co-governance through working closely with Te Aka Whai Ora, the Māori heath authority, not only because Te Whatu Ora required by law to take a treaty-centric aproach but also because experience around the world shows the best way to address health inquities is to move resources to the most-affected groups.
“There’s two stands to why Te Aka Whai Ora is so important, so it’s very distressing the ACT Party and the National Party are campaigning to take Te Aka Whai Ora away, but even worse that you see the current Government trying to slowly back away from those commitments when they are so important,” Mr Campbell says.
