Māori foresters backing slash inquiry
Māori forestry roopuu Nga Pou a Tane is backing the ministerial inquiry into slash.
Former National minister and Gisborne resident Hekia Parata has been asked to head a panel looking at forestry practices in Tairāwhiti/Gisborne and Wairoa.
Nga Pou chair Te Kapunga Dewes says it’s good the review has been asked to take a wider view on land use.
“So very supporting, looking forward to being an active participant and looking forward to solutions that are evidence-based and industry based, not just based on perhaps politial leverage or propaganda or political expediency,” he says.
Mr Dewes says the short timeframe of just two months for the inquiry is a good thing.
