The four-day festival starts at Nga Ana Wai Eden Park on Wednesday.
The teams won selection back in 2020 but the national competition was delayed by the Covid pandemic.
Hariru Roa from Ngati Maniapoto’s Te Kapa Haka o Ngā Pua o Te Kōwhara says it’s been a long journey to get to the big stage but she’s excited to be able to stand for her iwi.
“We’re getting out there to put ourselves out there, so certainly a lot about our own identity and devloping a tu o Maniapoto witin ourselves,” she says.
