Prime Minister Chris Hipkins is urging caution as former tropical cyclone Gabrielle heads southeast away from Aotearoa.
He says the Coromandel, Te Tai Rawhiti, and Hawke’s Bay Te Matau-a-Maui can still expect bad weather.
“Even if the rainfall eases off a bit, more rainfall can compound on top of the rainfall we have already seen. So when it comes to things like slips and so on, we could still see more of that even as the weather starts to ease. We’re still in for a bumpy time ahead, but the good news is we should see some calmer weather within the next 24 hours or so,” Mr Hipkins says.
