The National Iwi Chairs Forum says the chaos caused over the past month by weather events in Tamaki Makaurau, Tairawhiti and elsewhere should be a wake up call for why three waters infrastructure reform is needed.

Pou Taiao chair, Herewini Parata of Ngāti Porou says it’s clear existing infrastructure is woefully insufficient.

He says the forum’s meeting in Waitangi this week will look at the impacts of climate change on their communities, whenua and wai

The three waters plan embeds the principle of by Te Mana o te Wai, which he says will help reduce the disproportionate impacts of climate change falling on Māori communities.
