Gifts galore in Ngā Whare Waatea

Ngā Whare Waatea is hosting its annual Christmas food and gift distribution.
The emergence of other foodbanks throughout south Auckland means it’s on a smaller scale than previous years, but it’s expecting more than 400 whānau through its gates over the next five days.
Manukau Urban Māori Authority chief executive Tania Rangiheuea says while the marae’s food bank operates through the year in collaboration with Auckland City Mission, the Five Days of Christmas promotion is a MUMA special.
“We actually don’t get funded for the distribution of food parcels that come from the Auckland City Mission so it’s an investment our organisation makes for our community,” she says.
An emergency foodbank will resume on January 4.
