The Minister for Pacific Peoples says Toa Samoa making the final of the Rugby League World Cup has lifted the pride not only of young Samoans but those from other Pacific nations as well.
Aupito William Sio says the team’s 30-10 loss to Australia in yesterday’s final did not stop the outpouring of joy and pride that started when it beat England in the semi.
“It just lifted everybody, particularly the young people, their pride in who they are, their pride in their ancestral home and their pride that these boys symbolised something really, really special. They felt the whole world was seeing them for the first time and that’s really, really special,” he says.
