Tama Potaka National pick for by-election
The National Party has selected lawyer Tama Potaka as its candidate for the Hamilton West by-election.
He formerly worked for Tainui Group Holdings, and he’s now the chief executive of Ngai Tai ki Tamaki.
In a release, Mr Potaka stuck with National’s election lines of the economy and law and order.
He said Hamilton families need the Government to keep the economy strong in order to prioritise the tide of crime making many people feel unsafe in their own homes and out in the community.
He wants more deterrents and more consequences for offenders.
Labour’s candidate is Independent Schools Education Association chief executive Georgie Dansey of Ngati Tuwharetoa.
Also on the ballot are former Labour MP Gaurav Sharma, whose resignation triggered the December 10 by-election, sitting list MP James McDowall for ACT, and Naomi Pocock for the Opportunities Party.
