South Auckland shows off Labour heartbeat
Mangere MP Aupito William Sio says the Labour Party conference over the weekend was a chance to show delegates from around the country the importance of South Auckland to the party.
The conference dinner was held at the Fale o Samoa in Mangere, and he says they got to hear some of its history and how mana whenua supported the aspirations of the Samoan community for the development.
“And they got to hear about the history that goes back many years but still very fresh in the minds of the elders of why Mangere, Otara, Manurewa are tribal Labour, and they cannot take that vote for granted. So I think we got that message loud and clear to our delegates, and we fleeced them $100 each on that night to go into our campaign fund,” Mr Sio says.
