Tait turns Rangi and Papa story into picture pukapuka

Māori illustrator Mat Tait hopes his latest pukapuka appeals to readers young and old.
His previous book, The Adventures of Tupaia, won the Russell Clark Award for Illustration at the 2020 New Zealand Children’s Book Awards.
Te Wehenga, which tells the story of the separation of Ranginui and Papatuanuku, is aimed at 8 to 12 year olds,
“The book is suitable for tamariki but hopefully also suitable for anyone older than that who may or may not already be familiar with the story, so I hope it will have a wider readership than 8 to 12,” Tait says.
Te Wehenga is published by Allen & Unwin, released last week.
