Māori-led council great for Far North

Te Tai Tokerau MP Kelvin Davis is applauding the election of Moko Tepania as the Far North’s first Māori mayor.
He says with the majority on the council having Maori ancestry, including the four elected to the new Maori ward, for the first time the district will have a council that reflects the population.
”Moko I was just so happy, I rang him to congratulate him. For a while there it was a bit dicey but I think it’s a wonderful result for the Far North, that on top of all the other Maori councillors coming in as well,” he says.
Mr Davis says the new mayor and council are now in the hot seat to address critical issues like housing and roading.
