Te Patu offers guide to slow lane

A Māori wellness expert is urging people to slow down – and he’s got an app to help them.
Jase Te Patu of Ngāti Apa, Ngāti Ruanui, and Ngāti Tūwharetoa has developed mental health and wellness programmes for schools.
He’s also mentored Avatar director James Cameron, the All Blacks and the Silver Ferns.
He says in a world of technology and social media, people don’t give themselves time to de-stress.
“I used to love rushing around, like active as a sports person when I was younger, and it’s a real pukenga to slow down and be slow – stillness, you get to really stop and be present and see what is there in your life, the things that you can be grateful for,” Mr Te Patu says.
M3 Whānau is a bilingual app which fuses yoga and kaupapa techniques to help people maintain their mental wellbeing by consciously grabbing moments to relax from their busy lives..
