Māori flavour for Women’s Rugby World Cup

Black Ferns legend Farah Palmer is promising a strong Māori flavour to tomorrow’s Women’s Rugby World Cup opening.
Dr Palmer captained the winning team for the first three tournaments, and she played a big part in securing for the tournament for Aotearoa.
She says the opening at what should be a sold out Eden Park will showcase the country’s Maori heritage.
“So we’re involving Ngati Whatua Orakei, we’re involving hapu up in Whangarei (for the Whangarei games), we’ve had the blessing of Dame Hinewehi Mohi to do the Wa Poi and we’ve been doing it in I think a really tika way,” she says.
Dr Palmer says giving out free poi to fans is a uniquely Aotearoa thing.
