Crochet art bringing joy
Crochet creatives Lissy and Rudi Robinson-Cole are tackling their biggest project – a life size glow in the dark woollen wharenui.
Their work to date is on show in Lower Hutt’s Dowse Art Museum, and they hope to complete the project by Matariki 2023.
The Otahuhu couple say their art is about transforming intergenerational trauma into joy one crochet loop at a time.
Rudi Robinson-Cole says gallery visitors have told them it brings back memories of their kuia knitting or crocheting.
“Wharenui Harikokoa is a refracting prism of tupuna-inspired light that shines that light across the sky like a rainbow,” he says.
