High flying endorsements as Auckland mayoralty down to wire

Labour Party leader Jacinda Ardern has thrown her weight behind Efeso Collin’s bid to become Auckland’s next mayor.
She says it was a party decision to back the Manukau ward councillor.
“He shares many of the same values we have. He wants to improve public transport. He wants an inclusive Auckland. He wants to ensure there is enough social housing for Aucklanders, so a lot of shared values there,” Ms Ardern says.
Efeso Collins has also been endorsed by Lorde – although the singer was warned that putting a photo of her ballot on social media breached election rules.
Meanwhile, Ngati Whatua elder Dame Naida Glavish, who is out of sorts with Prime Minister Ardern over the planned Erebus Memorial, has endorsed Wayne Brown for the role in a video of the pair standing on Takaparawhau-Bastion Point.
It’s too late now to mail in votes, so people are urged to drop them off in the ballot boxes in libraries, council service centres and supermarkets.
