Waiting lists at Auckland hospitals are coming down.
The chief medical officer for Te Whatu Ora Manukau, Dr Andrew Connolly, says the number of people waiting more than 12 months for surgery and other in-hospital services is down right around the region, although not yet at pre-Covid levels.
There has also been a strong equity focus to ensure Maori and Pasifika patients are seen in a timely fashion.
“We are certainly nowhere near perfect but we are seeing sustained improvement which is great. The biggest challenge we have got is really on the emergency side of things where the hospital is just jam packed and we remain short of staff,” Dr Connolly says.
