Whānau Ora hui ends on positive note
A Māori health leader says she was greatly impressed with the vision on display at this week’s North Island Whānau Ora Conference in Rotorua.
Lady Tureiti Moxon from Kirikiriroa-based Te Kohao Health says at their first in-person hui for four years providers shared how they were able to step up during Covid not only for Maori but for everyone.
There was also an emphasis on coming up with Maori solutions and being at every table where decisions are made.
“There’s still a long way to go but our people have seen the vision, they know where they’re going, they know what needs to be done and they’re just getting out there and doing it and that to me is part of it, the mobilisation of our people in such a positive environment and in such a positive way,” she says.
Lady Moxon says Covid showed how easy it is for Government to find the money when everyone it threatened, and it now needs to show it can fund the putea to allow Maori to address inequity.
