Shopping list app takes reo to retail
Four Square shoppers will be able to move on from Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori Language week with an app that lets them make their shopping lists in Māori.
Rārangi Kai was developed in partnership with two advertising agencies, FCB Aotearoa and RUN.
RUN creative director Raymond Otene McKay says as a Maori-run agency his team wanted to ensure the tikanga was right and that the exercise was more than tokenism.
“That builds the trust in our minds that this is something that’s not just a one-off, let’s do it for one week and then see you later. It’s something we think and they think can grow into something that could be a really good resource for people who are learning or even if it gets bigger and better we can look after our fluent speakers as well. There’s something in there that could test them too,” he says.
The app is live and can be accessed here https://rarangikai.foursquare.co.nz/
