Māori language moment spanning generations

Cabinet minister Kiritapu Allen says as a first generation kohanga kid she wants to thank those who kicked off the reo revival with the Maori Language Petition.
Ms Allen was at Parliament for today’s gathering by many of those who presented the petition 50 years ago.
She says that generation allowed their tamariki and mokopuna to walk in dual worlds.
“You feel really humbled on a day like today. I reflect on my own reo journey, not matatau in te reo but that’s my own fault and we chase and we pursue but we know this next generation, the world is a different oyster that is waiting for them to grab it and run and I’m excited,” Ms Allen says.
