Covid campaign lost opportunuty for Reti

National’s health spokesperson is calling for the third of a billion dollars spent on Maori providers for Covid immunization to now be spent on vaccinating for other illness.
Share Reti says the Government is responsible for the current low immunization rates among tamariki Maori for measles.
He says the 2019 measles epidemic should have been a trial run for Covid, but the health sector seems to have learned nothing – and the Covid immunisation programme now seems a wasted opportunity.
“I need an infrastructure for a third of a billion that doesn’t just deal with Covid. I need to be able drop all the other immunisations on the schedule into that framework be it measles, be it polio, be it tetanus, be it Hep B. So I don’t just want a third of a billion Covid response. I want a third of a billion immunisation infrastructure,” Dr Reti says.
