Raukawa-council partnership not just box ticking

South Waikato iwi Ngāti Raukawa is teaming up with its local council to push Wellington for more resources for the district.
General manager Maria Te Kanawa says there’s a pressing need for affordable housing and long-term co-investment to address multigenerational inequalities.
She says the iwi built a strong relationship with South Waikato District Council through the Waikato River Settlement process.
“What I think has changed and maybe in particular for the South Waikato District Council is they genuinely want to partner with us and not tick a box,” Ms Te Kanawa says
Raukawa, council, community and business representatives are heading to Parliament on Wednesday to state their case for economic development for the region.
