Margaret Urlich a quintessential performer

Musician Moana Maniapoto says the late Margaret Urlich really rocked.
Urlich topped the New Zealand charts as a singer with Peking Man before achieving even greater success as a solo artist across the Tasman.
She died of cancer yesterday surrounded by family at her home in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, where she lived with her husband and manager George Gorga.
She was 57.
Maniapoto says she had her own style.
“She really rocked it and I was watching some of her videos last night just reminiscing and thinking she’s quintessential in her movements her vocals, her songwriting. It’s a sad day for her whanau, her iwi,” she says.
Margaret Urlich was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame in 2020 along with fellow members of the all-female band When the Cat’s Away.
