Former New Zealand First MP Ron Mark wants his old job back … as mayor of Carterton.
He held the post from 2010 to 2014.
He says he’s standing because friends convinced him the Wairarapa township had lost its way.
“Carterton was the fastest growing district in the north island and the fourth fastest in the country but that was back in my time in 2013, 2014, and I mean to put us back in that space again,” Mr Mark says.
If he wins, Mr Mark could face new challenges including the push by tangata whenua for Maori ward seats and pressure for Wairarapa councils to amalgamate.
