NZ Inc gets behind Māori economic development
The manager of Māori relationships at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise says a Reserve Bank paper on improving the access Māori businesses have to capital is a welcome contribution to wider efforts across government.
Dale Stephens says increasing Māori participation has been the aim of the group of agencies who come under the New Zealand Inc banner working on increasing commercial and economic opportunities.
“Ministry for Primary Industries, Ministry of Education is involved, Foreign Affairs and Trade, ourselves at Trade and Enterprise, Te Puni Kokiri, MBIE the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment so there is a real focus there on looking at the best ways to grow Māori communities,” he says.
The government’s social agencies are also taking a combined approach to Māori community development.
