Waatea correspondent Jodi Ihaka for the first time a word has appeared on the team uniform and signage – and it’s not a sponsor.
It’s Aotearoa, sitting about New Zealand.
She says perks up the standard black strip, which Australian sledgers have called as exciting as a two-day-old lamington.
“Something which has a little more interest and kaha. As we all know any Māori designer could basically sum up everything we are as people from Aotearoa. Now going forward we are always going to do it. The athletes love it,” Ms Ihaka says.
