Achievable promises key to mayoral run

One last run.
That’s the word from veteran Auckland councillor Alf Filipaina as he seeks a fifth term representing the Manukau ward.
The former community constable says he wants to spend more time with his whānau and as much time as he can on his feet, rather than in a wheelchair.
He’s got advice for mayoral candidate Fa’anana Efeso Collins, who may become the supercity’s first Pasifika mayor.
“Run on your platform but look at some of the differences between some of the candidates that are out there and then make sure that you have something that’s different but is something that can be achieved in the three years, and that is what is so important,” Mr Filipaina says.
Alf Filipaina says if he wins reelection, he’s keen to retain the chair of the Parks, Arts, Community and Events Committee, which is responsible for the council’s Māori outcomes strategy.
