Violence strategy fit for wider crime
The Minister for Family and Domestic Violence says the approach taken in her portfolio could fit other difficult areas of crime and social disorder.
Marama Davidson is preparing to defend progress on her Te Aorerekura strategy before a select committee, and she’s also getting ready for the first annual hui bringing together government agencies, iwi, practitioners and others in the sector.
She says Te Aorerekura calls for a strength-based and holistic approach to wellbeing an a focus on prevention and healing.
“The strategy that was designed and created., tiriti-centered, with community sector and government working together is a narrative for how we really do address crime, really do address violence in our communities and our homes and it makes it clear long-term, evidence-based, community-led solutions are the answer,” Ms Davidson says
She says the tough on crime approaching promoted by the National and ACT parties won’t reduce reoffending and will continue cycles of violence.
