Springbok Tour film gets Cannes buzz

A Māori film producer has been at the Cannes Film Festival in France drumming up interest in a film set around the 19081 Springbok rugby tour of Aotearoa.
Angela Cudd says One Winter is getting a positive response, and filming should start in Dunedin in September.
She says it’s a coming of age movie, about the son of a Māori rugby legend being raised by his widowed Pākehā mother and looking for ways to reconnect with his taha Māori side against the backdrop of tour protests.
“I definitely think it will be relatable in terms of reconnection because that’s a big thing in the moment and has been for a while in terms of people who have become disconnected from their taha Māori and want to reconnect but it’s a scary thing and I hope this opens a dialogue that helps people know it doesn’t have to be a scary thing,” she says.
The cast for One Winter will include Julian Dennison, Minnie Driver, James Rolleston and Erana James.
