Double shot needed to protect from winter woes

Māori health providers expect Covid and influenza cases to peak in Tāmaki Makaurau over the next two months.
Turuki Health director Te Puea Winiata says data from Counties Manukau shows a new peak is likely to hit hard mid-year.
Two years of lockdowns has lowered people’s resistance to the flu because of restricted access to vaccines and low exposure.
She’s encouraging whānau to get both their Covid booster and influenza shot to avoid a double hit through winter.
“Those who have particular underlying conditions and managing long term co0nditions, particularly respiratory, are free along with our hapū mama, those who are pregnant can also get a free vaccination and also Māori and Pacific over 55. Come in whānau and get your vaccinations,” Ms Winiata says.
