Healing space included in youth job hub

A South Auckland charitable trust has opened a new hub for rangatahi needing help to get mahi.
Te Ata Hāpai in Manukau city centre will support Mā Te Huruhuru Trust’s 12-week workforce program to help the transition from school into work.
Coordinator Awatea Wihongi says it was co-designed with rangatahi to be a space where they can relax, with table tennis and pool tables.
There’s also a special room for healing and counselling sessions.
“Te wao nui a Tane was created for our taitamariki purely as a healing space for them. It feels like you are in the ngahere. The walls are wrapped in ngahere, pictures, just a safe space for them,” Ms Wihongi says.
