Active Covid cases pass 100,000


There are now almost 100,000 active cases of Omicron in New Zealand.
There were 19,566 new community cases reported today by the Ministry of Health has and 373 people in hospital with the Covid-19, including nine in intensive care.
Auckland has 12,530 active cases, followed by Waikato with 1812 and Bay of Plenty with 1185.
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield apologised for testing delays.
He says the number of active cases is certainly higher, including those among protesters who refuse to get tested.
Meanwhile, for those seeking an alternative to the Pfizer vaccine, Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says Novavax has been approved for adults and doses will arrive this month.
