Homework good option for kids in Omicron wave

A front-line doctor at Papakura Marae says whānau are justified in their fears about sending their children to school.
Dr Matire Harwood says recent clinics at the marae have found about half of those testing positive for Covid-19 are school children.
One of the most common questions she is asked is whether tamariki should be sent to school, and she’s telling people to do what they believe is right for their whānau.
“I’ve had no hesitation to keep the children home and it’s been interesting, it’s actually managed to keep them safe when many of their classmates have gone down, so I’m telling whānau you’re in the best place to make the decision for your tamariki, for your whānau, and I would support that,” Dr Harwood says.
She says if everyone in the household is strong and fit it might make sense to let Omicron rip through the family and isolate together at the same time so they can get back to work faster.
