Download AudioOrganisers of the annual waka gathering at Waitangi are still planning on a reduced presence this year.
Nga Waka O Te Taitokerau chair Robert Gabel says five or six waka should be on the water on Waitangi Day, but the situation is constantly under review.
“Omicron is just about ready to pounce by the sound of things. Unfortunately, anything can happen with Omicron so a little bit unsure if we are able to achieve that but that’s the plan, to have about five or six waka, about 100 plus kai hoe involved in Waitangi Day,” he says.
